Compassion Over Killing recently released footage from an undercover investigation conducted on Quanah Cattle Co. in Kersey, CO, earlier this week. The video shows feeble male calves being dragged by their ears and legs, and kicked and tossed off trucks and trailers. Many of the baby cows are newborns and have not learned to walk yet—some even have their umbilical cords still attached. Due to the extreme emotional duress they are subjected to, along with the lack of veterinary care they receive, many of the cows die in the facility. Doctor Temple Grandin, an animal handling expert at Colorado State University, condemned the abuse perpetrated by the Quanah workers, noting that “If this facility had been a slaughter plant, the USDA would have shut them down.”
